Virginia Events:

The VACHP (Virginia Association of Chimney & Hearth Professionals) is sponsoring two seminars in August. The seminars are running back-to-back.  The first, "Hearth Extension Replacement" taught by Chris Prior, is set for Wednesday & Thursday, August 20 & 21.  The second, "Scaffolding Competent Person" taught by Glyn Summers, is set for Friday, August 22.  Both are in Newport News, VA.

Worried about the high cost of fuel to drive here? There are airports in Newport News, Richmond, and Norfolk.  A round-trip ticket from Boston is only $207 today on http://www.orbitz.com/.

Registration fees for the seminars:
        Hearth             $125
        Scaffolding       $175

But wait, there's more!!!

Both seminars for......$275!

We have a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express (where the classroom is) for $89 per night including breakfast.  Hurry rate is only available until Wed. 8/13.

Chris Prior's seminar will start with 4 hours of classroom instruction followed by lunch (our treat) and a mini auction thanks to our supplier-supporters, Whitecaps, Copperfield, Saver Systems, and Wakefield Brush (thanks, guys!).  The afternoon and all the second day will be spent on-site with hands-on instruction removing and replacing an actual floating hearth.

The Scaffolding Competent Person seminar will be 8 hours of classroom instruction followed by a written exam.  Passing the exam entitles you to a certificate and wallet card recognized by OSHA.

 Scaffold "Competent Person" Course Outline

The 8 hour scaffold "Competent Person" course provides detailed instruction in scaffold hazard recognition and common safety issues including a thorough discussion of OSHA regulations, manufacturers' recommended assembly instructions, and the topics required by 29CFR1926.454 for three types of scaffolding:  Frame, Tube & Coupler, and System.  Some of the topics include foundations, fall protection, falling object protection, stability tying, planking, ladders & safe access, loading, and step-by-step assembly procedures.

The purpose of this course of instruction is to provide scaffold erectors, inspectors, and users with the regulations, safety guidelines, and procedures needed to recognize and eliminate hazards in the field.

Enabling objectives include specifying the General Requirements for Frame, Tube and Clamp and System Scaffolding; Determining the specific safety rules and steps associated with the Erection of Frame, Tube and Clamp, and System Scaffolding.  Identifying the major items to consider when performing a scaffold inspection is also covered.  As well as specifying the major elements of OSHA's Regulation 29 CFR Subpart L-Scaffolding.

How often does this type of opportunity come around?!?

As you can see, we're pretty excited about these.  E-mail Jim Bostaph or call 757-596-2298 for additional details.  Click here to download registration form.  Copies of the course outlines are available if you're still undecided.  CEUs available for CSIA & NFI - more details to follow.
